Nigeria’s government have extended the deadline for subscribers to register their National Identification Number (NIN) and link it to their mobile phone number.
The Federal Republic of Nigeria urged the telecommunications operators around the country to ensure that their subscribers enrolled in this exercise and the number of sim cards to be linked in one NIN will soon be announced this will help to curtail cyber crimes around and across the country.
FG gave three weeks extension for subscribers who have NIN and six weeks for those who are yet to enroll in the NIN exercise to update
However, FG reprimanded all subscribers who refused to link their NIN will be blocked after the 30th day of December 2020.
This was gathered from the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy released on Monday, December 21.
The minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami with major stakeholders for the sector including the Chairman - NCC, EVC-NCC, DG-NITDA, DG-NIMC, ECTS/ECSM-NCC, Chairman ALTON, CEOs of MTN, Airtel, Ntel, Glo, Smile, and 9Mobile attended the meeting.
It was stated that based on the endorsement of the FG. they took this decision that in
1: "Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December 2020 to 19th January 2021; and
2: "Six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December 2020 to 19 February 2020
Initially, NCC gave two weeks deadline till 30th December for telecommunication operators to block all customers that refused to register their SIM cards with National Identification Numbers.
But on Monday 21 December 2020, a decision was taken for an extension
Till 19th February 2021 to enable everyone to register their Sim Card with NIN. To be forewarned is to before armed thank you
